Girls Varsity Soccer · Lady Falcons Soccer District Champs in Win vs. Manvel

The top two teams in District 24-5A met at Foster last night with Foster’s district unbeaten streak and a district crown on the line.  It was a physical match-up of two teams with speed up front and the ability in midfield to possess the ball.  Foster got off to the quicker start, attacking Manvel’s goal through the first 5 minutes.  Manvel looked to use their speed and take advantage of counter-attacking play but Foster’s defensive back four, including a first start for freshman Katie Hendrix, repelled each attempt. Through the first twenty minutes, it was a back and forth affair with most of the possession occurring in Manvel’s defensive half.  Then, in the 24th minute, Jasmin Badillo was fouled hard in the box and setup the opening goal off a calmly stroked penalty kick.  Falcons led 1-0 at half.

Manvel started quickest in the second half getting their first clear shot on goal which Grace Shivers smothered.  A quick counter saw Jasmin’s shot blocked and a free kick from distance just missed the upper corner two minutes later.  Manvel subbed in some fresh legs 50 minutes in and started to drive deeper into Foster’s half.  The game got rougher with players from both sides receiving a yellow card caution for a push in the back.  With 10 minutes left, Foster’s corner kick just missed the back post and Tola Ajayi sent a free kick wide of the mark.

Finally, Foster got some breathing room when Jasmin found some space on the left side of the penalty box and sent a beautiful shot into the far upper corner for a 2-0 lead and what looked to be the game winner.  But, Manvel kept pressing and won a corner and free kick, both of which the Foster defense was able to safely clear.  Time was ticking off when, following a Manvel injury and restart, Angelica Bochus grabbed an errant pass, took off down the field and found the upper left corner from 20 yards out to seal the victory at 3-0.

Foster is still undefeated in district play and, based on the result, are assured of a district title with two games  remaining.  The Falcons play at Angleton on Tuesday, 19 March, at 7:30 PM. #ptn #WiT
